Lewiston-Auburn area who cut women’s hair with a razor instead of scissors? Thanks. — No Name, No Town.
Answer: Sun Spots spoke with her hairdresser who noted that
all you have to do is ask! Some beauticians prefer to use scissors
depending on the type of hair you have, and she said generally women
with shorter hair will have their hair cut with a razor. But if you
ask, your beautician should be able to accommodate you or tell you why
they prefer not to use a razor on your hair.
Dear Sun Spots: My name is Alix Spiegel and I’m a reporter with National Public Radio. I’m doing a story about the health care system and I’m hoping you can help. Apparently for the last couple decades the community of Lewiston had a high number of people who got back surgeries. According to the Portland Press Herald in 2005, the rate of lower back operations in the Lewiston area was 124 times higher than most of the cities in Maine. (I believe those rates have fallen considerably now.)

Dear Sun Spots: I am writing to you with two unrelated requests. First, I am the secretary of the ELHS Class of 1960 and plans are under way for our 50th reunion next July. I hope your readers can help locate four missing classmates: Etta Freeman Brown, Gerald Jordan, Raymond Levasseur and Chester Tripp Jr.
Now, my second request is on behalf of the Auburn Lions Club, which collects used eye glasses, hearing aids and cell phones. These are refurbished and given to those in need. There are collection boxes in the area, such as the Lisbon Town Office and Central Maine Eye Care or your readers could drop off items at either ReMax River Cities or ERA Worden Realty, both are on Center Street in Auburn.
