Dear Sun Spots: I’m wondering if there are any beauticians in the
Lewiston-Auburn area who cut women’s hair with a razor instead of scissors? Thanks. — No Name, No Town.

Answer: Sun Spots spoke with her hairdresser who noted that
all you have to do is ask! Some beauticians prefer to use scissors
depending on the type of hair you have, and she said generally women
with shorter hair will have their hair cut with a razor. But if you
ask, your beautician should be able to accommodate you or tell you why
they prefer not to use a razor on your hair.

Dear Sun Spots: My name is Alix Spiegel and I’m a reporter with National Public Radio. I’m doing a story about the health care system and I’m hoping you can help. Apparently for the last couple decades the community of Lewiston had a high number of people who got back surgeries. According to the Portland Press Herald in 2005, the rate of lower back operations in the Lewiston area was 124 times higher than most of the cities in Maine. (I believe those rates have fallen considerably now.)

Do you have a story to tell about back surgery? Would you like to speak to a reporter about your experience? Anyone who got surgery from the mid-70s on is eligible. If you’re interested in talking about it please contact me by e-mail: aspiegel@npr.org, and thanks. — Alix Spiegel, National Public Radio.

you so kindly get for us. Your column is cherished by all people. My

network? I am having a problem with mine and there is no address
accessible. I would appreciate anything that would be available. Thank you. Call 782-1602. — Lucille, No Town.

Dear Sun Spots: I am writing to you with two unrelated requests. First, I am the secretary of the ELHS Class of 1960 and plans are under way for our 50th reunion next July. I hope your readers can help locate four missing classmates: Etta Freeman Brown, Gerald Jordan, Raymond Levasseur and Chester Tripp Jr.

Now, my second request is on behalf of the Auburn Lions Club, which collects used eye glasses, hearing aids and cell phones. These are refurbished and given to those in need. There are collection boxes in the area, such as the Lisbon Town Office and Central Maine Eye Care or your readers could drop off items at either ReMax River Cities or ERA Worden Realty, both are on Center Street in Auburn.

Thanks so much for providing this great column for area reader needs.— Maryann Norcross, Auburn.

Dear Sun Spots: We’d like to offer our most heartfelt thank you to all those involved in the June 27 benefit supper for Jody Roux. Jody and we, his family, were completely overcome by the generous outpouring of community support.

Special thanks to the coordinators Becky Croteau and her daughter Erica Bracy, Kristin Starbird, Elaine Lendall, and Daren Allen, Beal’s General Store, The White Elephant, the Methodist, Nazarene and Living Waters churches and the countless attendees who prepared, served and/or enjoyed the delicious meal.

Again, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you and God bless you all. — Jody Roux; Mike and Terry Parker, parents; and Jeff and Kim Hutchins, sister.
