FARMINGTON — At 26, budding country singer-songwriter and Farmington native Travis Pinkham already has a lot to be proud of in his music career. Preceding the release of his first album “Unwind,” he won a number of awards spanning the states from Maine to Tennessee.
Pinkham, along with Down the Dirt Road, will be performing at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 11, at The Roost in Farmington.
As a guitarist, singer and songwriter Pinkham finds his most inspired music is “sparked by everyday events.” He says there is power in inspiration and he hopes to bring that into his music for his audience.
His song “Jesus Strong,” for instance, came to him as he watched an emotional scene from a Tyler Perry movie. Suddenly he felt for the single mother portrayed in the movie, for her struggles, and through his empathy a song was born. With his music he is able to radiate the feelings of not only himself but also those of others.
As he finds inspiration from everyday life he also is driven by the desire to inspire others. There was no prouder moment for the musician then when his 8-year-old nephew, after seeing him play at a concert, uttered the words, “I want to do that, I want to be like you.”
Pinkham says living in Maine has prepared him for his career, in ways living in a big city music capitol would not. Here, a performer must push their boundaries, searching different towns and areas to find places to book shows. It has forced him to reach past his comfort zone into new towns, gaining the confidence and experience necessary to release an album.
His album Unwind is available at his Facebook page and through Everyday Music in downtown Farmington. The making of this album brought together two polar opposites of the music world. Former producer for “Lamb of God,” Steve Austin, and Pinkham’s own gospel-inspired country music makes for a truly professional sound and worthwhile listen.
“Jesus Strong” was produced by Paul Leblanc and Debbie Myers, while the rest of the songs were Steve Austin and Travis Pinkham.
