DOVER, N.H. — Theresa M. LaBrie passed away Wednesday, March 1.
Theresa was born July 5, 1930, in Passaic, N.J., the daughter of John McGuigan and Emeline (Begin) McGuigan. A devout Catholic, she was educated at Ave Maria Convent in Sabattus, then completed high school at St. Dominic High School in Lewiston.
She lived in Lewiston, marrying Robert LaBrie on Feb. 2, 1952. With a beautiful soprano voice and a love of classical music, operas and musicals, Theresa sang in amateur shows as well as for the Holy Cross parish choir. She also sang for the Most Holy Trinity church choir and volunteered for several years in its soup kitchen. Theresa was a member of the Ladies of Holy Cross, where she chaired the annual card party fundraisers. Interested in politics, she also worked at Lewiston polling places during major elections.
Theresa moved to Saco in the 1980s, continuing her involvement in charitable and volunteer work. She was an usher for more than 20 years for Merrill Auditorium in Portland, where she enjoyed many world-class acts for free while occasionally meeting the producers and performers backstage. Her final trip to Merrill was for a front-row seat to her favorite, “Magic of Christmas.”
Theresa loved her family and her greatest joy was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking and would treat all to her signature brown sugar fudge, pineapple upside-down cakes and everyone’s special pies. She loved all things Irish and took delight in creating St. Patrick’s Day meals.
Theresa is survived by her husband, Robert; daughter, Patricia LaBrie; son, Paul LaBrie and his wife, Sharon; grandson, Jonathan LaBrie of Williston, Vt.; and granddaughter, Erin Sullivan and her husband, John Sullivan, of Somersworth, N.H. Theresa had two great-grandchildren, John Sullivan II and Brienne Sullivan.
