NORWAY — Emergency Management Administrator Bonnie Seames has announced that starting Monday, March 6, certain roads will be posted to prohibit vehicles over 23,000 pounds.
Seames said that with mud season fast approaching, the town would post some roads, with some vehicles being exempt. These include emergency vehicles, public utility vehicles, municipal vehicles, home heating fuel delivery trucks, bulk milk and feed trucks with Maine Department of Transportation exemption certificates, and any vehicle with more than 23,000 pounds that is traveling without a load.
According to the Maine Department of Transportation website, every spring the agency evaluates “potential damage to state and state-aid highways, and determines whether weight restrictions should be imposed to prevent damage due to freeze/thaw action.”
The posted sections include parts of 23 roads, many of which intersect with Route 117 or 118.
Seames said the roads will be posted from March 6 until further notice.
