CHEBEAGUE ISLAND — Virginia “GeeGee” Dyer, 91, died peacefully on Thursday, March 2, at home with her family by her side.
Born Oct. 17, 1925, she was the daughter of George Bickford and Mary Davis in Pittsfield and later moving to Lisbon. She was a welder at Bath Iron Works during World War II. She made Chebeague Island her home from 1975 until her death. She loved music, singing and kitchen dancing.
She is survived by her nine children and their spouses, George and Paulette King, Maurice Fred and Juli King, Scott King, Gary King, Laura Yenco, Peggy O’Leary, Sandra and Rick Dyer, Pamela Pulsifer, and Karen and Terry Ullom. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her husband, Joseph Dyer, and her sister, Shirley King, and survived by her siblings, Geraldine LaChance, Donald Bickford, and Byron Bickford.
“At the birth of the sun and his brother the moon, their mother died. So, they gave to the earth the stars to remind them of her body and soul and the many children that she gave to us all.”
