LEWISTON — The Lewiston Police Department will start it’s next Citizens’ Police Academy on Tuesday, March 21, at the police station, according to a news release.

The program is for those 18 years and older. It meets from 6 to 8 p.m. every Tuesday for 10 weeks.

People who enroll will get insight on the operations of the department. Instructors are Lewiston officers and representatives from non-police agencies. The curriculum is frequently updated to stay current and to offer unique perspectives that police face.

People who enroll will learn about the department and the department will learn about concerns of community members. However, the program is not a police training school and is not an open forum to discuss law enforcement contacts or grievances.

Class size is limited. Preference will be given to Lewiston residents. Only those able to make a full commitment to the class should apply. Background checks will be done on applicants. People with felony convictions or extensive criminal backgrounds will not be accepted.
