RANGELEY — The Maine Forestry Museum will hold its 37th Annual Logging Festival and Parade Weekend on July 28 and 29.

The festivities get started on Friday at the fairgrounds, 221 Stratton Road (Route 16). Artists and crafters, free children’s activities; from 1 to 3 p.m. there will be a portable sawmill demonstration and at 3 p.m., the beans for the bean-hole dinner will be buried for serving Saturday. Friday’s admission is free. 

At 7 p.m., Friday, Little Mister and Miss Woodchip competition will be held. Six-to 8-year-old boys and girls who would like to sing a song or recite a poem will participate. There will be cloggers, live music and light refreshments served. Admission is $5 for adults; children under 18, $1.

Saturday begins with a parade at 10 a.m. on Main Street. This year’s theme is “From the Mountains to the Mills.” The parade will feature logging trucks and equipment, antique cars, floats, live music, cloggers and more.

The festival resumes following the parade. There is free admission on Saturday for members; for nonmembers admission on Saturday is $5 for adults and $3 for children 6 to 12, children under 6 are free.

Artists and crafters will be on hand again. Free children’s activities will include barrel train rides, mini-excavator for children over 7; chainsaw carving demos, Maine Audubon display, the bean-hole dinner, and, of course, the Lumber Jack and Lumber Jill competitions. Prize money will be awarded for every event with the overall winners receiving a STIHL chain saw. D
