Seventy war-gardeners. working under the supervision of Agent Emil Dick of the Barker mill in New Auburn are learning much more than mere garden methods. They are learning what it means to set one’s course for a given goal and never to stop. Twenty women and fifty men responded to Agent Dick’s generous offer this spring, and accepted the garden plots which this gentleman had had prepared for seed, gratis. Most of them bought of him their fertilizer and potato seed at cost. Not one of them has carried on the work of planting and hoeing without the personal supervision of Agent Dick, who in a kindly and interested manner, has made it his way to keep in close touch with these amateur gardeners and drop now and then, as needed, just the bit of advice which would tide the man or woman over some hard places such as weeds, bugs, transplanting, et cetera.
