RUMFORD – Moon Tide Springs officials announced Friday they will open a new bottling plant in Rumford, a move expected to create up to 60 jobs.
According to a Moon Tide Springs official, the new plant will be open before Christmas.
The Rumford plant will produce half-liter polyethylene terephthalate bottles, according to a press release, while five-gallon, half-liter and 1-liter glass bottles will continue to be bottled at the Moon Tide Springs plant in Peru.
The water is bottled under the Carrabassett Spring Water label. Moon Tide Springs acquired Carrabassett Spring Water after the latter closed its doors for business in early 2016.
The news from Moon Tide Springs may come as a relief for many while uncertainty remains over whether Poland Spring will open a bottling plant in Rumford. Poland Spring officials said earlier this week they continue to consider potential sites in the areas of Rumford, Fryeburg and the Penobscot River Valley near Lincoln.
