PARIS — Leland A. Millett Jr. has been named the Veteran of the Month at the Maine Veterans’ Home.
Millett was born in Norway on April 10, 1928, and graduated from Norway High School in 1946. While in high school he played basketball and football; now he enjoys watching the Red Sox and the Patriots.
Millett enlisted in the Air Force in 1947 and was honorably discharged in 1951 as a staff sergeant. During that time he was a photographer, serving during the Korean War in Fort Worth and Fort Bliss, Texas, and Roswell, New Mexico. Millett earned the Good Conduct medal.
After he was discharged from the service, Millett worked for the Norway Farmers Union. He had a route for Cushman Bakery, was a self-employed construction worker and was a photographer for the Advertiser-Democrat, The Lewiston Daily Sun and the Portland newspapers.
Millett was married to Marion Millett and they have three children, Paul, Deb and Rhonda, and three grandchildren, Marklee, Jonathan and Timothy.
Millett volunteered 20 plus years for Community Lunch and also volunteered during bingo at the Norway American Legion and the Maine Veterans’ Home.
He came to the Maine Veterans’ Home in 2015 and enjoys playing bingo, cribbage and visiting.
