An apparent misunderstanding about the five cent fare increase of the Hudson Bus Line, which took effect yesterday, has been cleared up. Mrs. Theresa Samson, office manager of the bus company, said that the fare increase was five cents “across the board” meaning five cents for each zone. While more fares have been increased from 20 to 25 cents, she explained that this is because the route is within one zone, The routes from Lisbon Falls to Lewiston and Mechanic Falls to Lewiston cross four zones, so there is an increase of 20 cents. Before the fare increase went into effect, the rate was 50 cents for these runs. Now it is 70 cents. The same is true from Sabattus to Lewiston, where the route crosses three zones. That fare has been increased from 40 to 55 cents. All other fares are now 25 cents, she said.

The Lewiston School Committee is expected to vote on awarding a diploma to a highly gifted teen-ager who has bypassed three and 1/2 years of high school and already completed more than one year of college. Having a diploma would eliminate a lot of red tape that will otherwise confront 15-year-old Benjamin Clark as he continues his post-secondary education, his parents, Brian and Elaine Clark, explained. An exception clause in the state law on high school graduation requirements allows a school district to grant a diploma to a former student who has satisfactorily completed the freshman year in an accredited degree-granting institution of higher education. Ben Clark has earned a 3.37 grade point average (on a 4.0 point system) for 38 credit hours he completed at Lewiston-Auburn College. He began taking college courses after he finished eighth grade at Lewiston Junior High School.
