PORTLAND — Michael F. Betts, 63, of Manchester passed away, Monday, Aug. 7, at Maine Medical Center in Portland, after suffering a serious three-week, short-term illness.
He was born April 18, 1954, in Gardiner, the son of G. Robert Betts and Frances (Howard) Betts. He attended school in Gardiner and was a graduate of Winthrop High School. Michael worked 30 years as a welder/steamfitter and retired from Local Union 716 out of Augusta. He was also a 27-year member of the Elks Lodge 964 in Augusta.
After retirement, Michael loved going to Popham Beach, was an avid golfer in both the Elks and seniors leagues, and most importantly, “His Beloved Birds!”
He leaves behind his companion, Darlene Jacques Simoneau and her children, Paul and Amiee; sister, Kimberly Nightingale and her companion, Samuel Clark; brother, David E. Betts and wife, Mary; sister-in-law, Geri Betts; nieces and nephews, Andrew, Alyssa and Adam Betts, Chris Betts and wife, Dasha, and Erica Betts; and great-nieces and great-nephews, Noah, Amelia, Arianna and Soreen.
He was predeceased by his parents, G. Robert and Frances Betts; his brother, Robert C. Betts; and sister, Betty Lou Betts.
