READFIELD (AP) — A settlement has been reached in a lawsuit filed by the parents of a Maine elementary school student who claimed a teacher put a paper bag on their daughter’s head four times.
The Kennebec Journal reported (http://bit.ly/2fIqqIa ) the $95,000 settlement with the Maranacook school district includes $15,000 for the family, $5,500 for their child’s therapy sessions and $10,000 for a trust for the child.
Michelle and Adam Woodford claimed in their lawsuit that Readfield Elementary School teacher Laura Reville put the bag over their daughter’s head in the fall of 2015. The Woodfords claimed the teacher’s actions led to bullying from other students.
Both the district and the teacher denied the allegations, and neither acknowledges liability in the settlement.
The settlement needs a judge’s signature before it becomes final.
