DEAR SUN SPOTS: Just a note to say that in Lewiston, Grimmel’s on Lisbon Street and Yvon’s Car Wash on Lincoln Street both pump gas for the customer. Thanks for all you do!

ANSWER: This is good to know! Thank you so much for taking the time to write.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Drivers and desserts are needed to raise money for the Sumner Scholarship Fund on Sept. 16. In the morning the annual bottle drive begins with volunteer drivers picking up bagged returnable bottles for a few hours along assigned routes.
In the evening a BBQ Buffet will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the West Sumner Universalist Church vestry, 1114 Main St. The menu includes ribs, brisket, pulled pork, beans, coleslaw, corn on the cob, macaroni and cheese, rolls, beverages and dessert. Takeout plates are available. The cost is $12 for adults and $6 for children 12 and under. Please join us for an excellent supper. Volunteers are needed to bake a dessert or bring coleslaw.
All Sumner residents may apply for the annual awards and there are no age restrictions. Applications are available at the Town Office or online at www.sumnermaine.us and must be submitted by April 30. For more information about volunteering or to donate, please contact Lee Berry, 388-218 or Arlene Silverman, 388-2276.

ANSWER: Driving around the beautiful town of Sumner sounds like a great way to spend a few hours on a Saturday morning, especially with that yummy feast, complete with homemade desserts, to look forward to later on!
DEAR SUN SPOTS: We would appreciate your help with getting the word out about our next Literacy Volunteers Tutor Training, which is Sept. 23 and 30, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at USM/Lewiston-Auburn College. Adults from many different countries and all levels of ability are waiting for a one-on-one tutor to help them with their educational goals. In addition to the L-A area, we are in need of tutors from Turner. Individuals who can speak some French or Spanish would also be helpful. Education is truly a life-changing gift. For more information call us at 753-6658 or email literacy@literacyvolunteersandro.org. Also check our website at LiteracyVolunteersAndro.org. Preregistration is required by Sept. 15. Sun Spots has brought us many wonderful volunteers over the years. We thank you for your help.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I’m looking for a wheelchair in good shape for my friend, John, a 50-year-old amputee who lives in the Norway-South Paris area. John is an inspiration to me. He keeps neighborhood lawns mowed and stays busy and active despite his disability. I could pay a small fee. Call Bobbi, 515-1587.
— Bobbi, no town
ANSWER: You may want to check Craig’s List online or pick up a copy of Uncle Henry’s, too. John’s physician or the local hospital may also know where he can pick up a new set of wheels for cheap!
