AUBURN — Janet L. Pulsifer, 77, of Poland, died peacefully at Clover Manor on Saturday, Aug. 26, where she was a resident.
Janet, who preferred Jan, was born in Poland on June 15, 1940, daughter of Norris Sr. and Gladys (Jordan) Hanscom. She attended Poland schools and graduated valedictorian of her class from Mechanic Falls High School in 1958. She went on to further her education at Auburn School of Commerce.
She married Stanley R. Pulsifer on May 28, 1960, in Poland. Stanley died Feb. 25, 2010. Jan was employed as an executive secretary for years and worked for the Job Corps. Later in life she devoted her time to taking care of her mother and earned a certificate as a CNA.
Jan was a member of several community organizations including Poland Community Church, Poland Beano Association and local Granges. In 1977 Jan became a justice of the peace/notary public and performed marriages for several relatives and community members.
Jan is survived by one sister, Betty L. Holt of Poland; five nephews, Robert, Steven, and David Hanscom, Roger Jr. and William Holt; seven nieces, Cheryl Brown, Cathy Thayer, Susan Keisman, Julie Ashley, Jane Barnaby, Cindy Rowe (Rella) and Diane Richards; several great and great-great-nieces and nephews; along with her best friend, Donna Searles.
She was predeceased by her husband and parents; three brothers, Norris Jr., Robert and William Hanscom; one sister, Pauline Fortier; and two nieces, Pamela Hanscom and Linda Irish.
Jan’s family would like to thank Clover Manor for taking care of Jan these past few years. A special thanks to David Hanscom for keeping an eye on her and a special thanks to Donna Searles for watching out for her care and taking the time to make her feel special.
