I was listening to the opposing side of the merger of the two cities during the Thursday debate, when something struck a nerve. Lewiston has approximately $100 million worth of debt — without the new school.
I have asked this question before without an answer. I’ll try again. Out of a city of almost 37,000 people, how many are actually taxpayers who are forced to pay for that debt? Does anyone in city hall have the honesty and decency to answer that question, that the citizens of Lewiston are so anxious to know the answer?
On another subject — has an independent study been made to verify if Lewiston really needs brand new fire stations, or maybe just update what is already there?
It seems the most popular word from city hall is “demolition.”
