CANTON — A fundraiser organized by the Historical Society is aimed at making improvements to the society’s recently moved building, the former Masonic Hall.
Historical Society member Phyllis Ouellette told selectmen Thursday night that all of the proceeds would go toward building repairs.
Voters in July approved $60,000 to demolish the original Canton Historical Society building and to move the neighboring Masonic Hall into its place.
“One of the keys is that if we get a high percentage of people participating (making a donation) it helps us out in the grant process, as well,” Ouellette said. “One particular grant we’re looking at, if we have 85 percent participation from the town, they fund 75 percent of the project-type stuff that we’re asking for.”
If everyone in Canton donated $1 toward the fundraiser, the town would have over $1,000 for repairs, she said.

In other business, Town Administrator Scotty Kilbreth told the board that Town Clerk Kathy Walker has obtained her municipal clerk certificate from the New England Municipal Clerks Institute.
Walker attended Plymouth State University in New Hampshire for a week in July over a four-year span.
The program offers a “highly coveted certification,” Walker said. “I know clerks that have applied in other states for jobs and the reason they got it was because they were certified like this,” she said.
“Clerks never stop training,” Kilbreth said.
