WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Joseph Maurice “Frenchy” Rodrigue, 75, died peacefully at home on Monday, July 5.

He was born in Lewiston. He enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II, serving on the USS McCook, the USS Shannon, and the USS Doyle. He also served during the Korea War.

For the next 30 years he continued his federal service with the U.S. Naval Mine Engineering Facility in Yorktown, Va.

He was a member and past president of The Williamsburg Jaycees, member of the Williamsburg Lions club and a volunteer for F I S H and Mary Immaculate Hospital.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Peggy Thompson Rodrigue; daughters, Celeste Rodrigue McCartney and her husband Jack of Williamsburg, Paula Phenix Rodrigue also of Williamsburg; two grandchildren, Daniel Michael Hard II, and Katie Rebecca McCartney; a brother, Paul Emile Rodrigue and wife Juliette Huard formerly of Lewiston; a sister-in-law, Anita Marie Rodrigue; and many nieces, nephews and loved ones.

He was predeceased by his parents, Napoleon and Lauretta Phenix Rodrigue; three brothers, Jules Rodrigue, Jiles Rodrigue, and Henri Odelon Rodrigue.
