WILTON — Wilton Police Department and Wilton Fire and Rescue are teaming up for the second annual Halloween Trick or Trunk.

Ghosts, goblins and other costumed youngsters will find a safe place to trick-or-treat on High Street on Halloween night, Police Chief Heidi Wilcox said.

High Street from Kineowatha Park to Fuller Street will be closed to traffic from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 31, for trick-or-treating at participating homes and at Kineowatha Park, she said.

Local residents or businesses can dress up their vehicles’ trunks and pass out candy at Kineowatha Park.

“We’re hoping even more people will sign up to participate,” Wilcox said.

Participants must register before Oct. 31. No one will be admitted to the park to pass out candy unless they do so, and no registrations will be taken that day.

Parents can be assured that all participants and participating houses along High Street are approved by police beforehand to ensure a safe Halloween experience.

There was a large turnout last year, Wilcox said, and one of the best parts of the event was it turned into a family affair.

“You would see a kid, their parents and even their grandparents enjoying the trick-or-treating without worry,” she said.

With about 30 homes along High Street, it has been a popular spot for children to visit. While residents are used to well over 100 trick-or-treaters, the departments also purchase candy to help homeowners with the overflow.

Members of the Fire Department will help block the street and side road entrances at School, Fuller and Knapp streets. Parking is available at the municipal lot on one end of High Street and at Wiles Funeral Home on the other end.

The event is open to everyone. People can trick-or-treat at other sites, Wilcox said.
