JAY — Community members are rallying to support Michael “Mike” Kennedy and his family with a benefit spaghetti supper, raffles and an auction from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, at the AMVETS Hall in Jay.

Kennedy is a hospice patient suffering from congestive heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and emphysema, according to his family. He has a tracheostomy to help him breathe.

Many area businesses and individuals have donated items. Raffle tickets for items valued from $10 to $50 will be sold. A Silent Auction for higher valued items and a 50/50 will be held. Purchasers need not be present to win.

Meal tickets are $4 for children under 10 and $7 for all others. Coleslaw, Italian bread and desserts are included. AMVETS will sell beverages.

AMVETS has donated the use of the hall. A local band, The Veggies, will play for a dance from 8 to 11 p.m. Those attending the supper can stay with no charge.

Tickets for a December Community Calendar Raffle will also be on sale for $10 each. The calendar features a different item or basket on each day.

Mike’s sister, Renda Guild, said a bake sale will be held starting at 10 a.m., Friday, Nov. 17, at the Livermore Town Office. Calendar raffle tickets can be purchased there during business hours.

Mike and his wife, Evelyn, have two children in Florida and New York and are caring for their two grandchildren.

Mike’s sister, Sue Langlin, said he has congestive heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and emphysema, and has a tracheostomy to breathe.

His father, Charles Kennedy of Livermore said, “Hospice told us two weeks ago he could go any day. He may make it to Christmas, but we were advised to have it early. This is his second time in hospice.”

Brother Charles Kennedy Jr. said, “Mike has lived in various places in the area. He lives in Auburn now to be closer to his doctors.”

“We’re very thankful to everyone for their support,” Langlin said.
