The Palesky referendum is a lose-lose scenario. By that I mean, if passed, it will have a devastating effect on municipal budgets and mean a massive cut in jobs statewide. If it doesn’t pass, it will be viewed as a victory for the politicians, who, over the years, have failed to exercise fiscal responsibility.
The real answer and, in my view, clearest way to send a message is to vote against every incumbent at the local and state levels of government in the fall election. These folks have clearly demonstrated they are a part of the problem by not speaking out and making every effort to reduce spending and initiating tax relief, as well as tax reform.
The problem with those folks is their unwillingness to put the desires of their constituents first, rather than those of the special interests. By not re-electing those rascals, we send a clear message to all politicians: Do the job you were elected to do.
Gov. Baldacci has proven he intends to be a one-termer. That is clearly demonstrated by his inability or unwillingness to try and bring both sides together and at least attempt to come up with a viable alternative to the Palesky proposal.
The only real answer is to throw the bums out. I am quite sure the newly elected folks will get the message.
