Lewiston/Auburn Area Squirt Tier I Gladiators picked up victories over the weekend against Amesbury and Cape Anne (Mass.) in a tournament at Merrimack College, followed by a triumph over Biddeford Breakers the next day at Ingersoll Arena in Auburn.
The Gladiators started off their doubleheader defeating first-place Amesbury, 2-1. Brendon Croteau had a strong performance with one goal and one assist. Steve Hammerton notched the other goal, assisted by Croteau. Trevor Lachance and Griffin Wade had the other assists. Jed Drapeau and Bradley McLellan produced nifty defensive plays. Ben Feldman was solid in net and held off Amesbury’s heavy pressure in the waning seconds.
Croteau’s three goals and one assist led the charge in a 7-2 rout of Cape. Evan Emerson, Hammerton, Owen MacCarthy and Griffin Wade all notched one goal apiece. Drapeau and Nathan Richards were playmakers with two assists each. Lachance, Ben Steele and Jacob Towle also assisted. Liam Benson and Hunter Soucy were aggressive on the forechecking front. Sam Zashut was strong in goal.
It was an early morning for the Gladiators after their return home, but they had enough left in the tank to bounce Biddeford, 5-2. Croteau kept up his hot streak with two goals and an assist. One of the goals was short-handed. MacCarthy, Hammerton and Ben Steele also pitched in with a goal apiece. Wade had an assist. Feldman was the netminder.
