AUBURN – Auburn Youth Hockey registration is set for Wednesday, Sept. 24 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Pond Building adjacent to Ingersoll Arena. All participants must bring their USA Hockey registration confirmation number.
Auburn-Lewiston ‘Y’ Skills and Drills hoop
AUBURN – Auburn-Lewiston YMCA is pleased to announce that registration for its Skills and Drills Youth Basketball Program is underway. Skills and Drills is an instructional program for girls and boys and is designed to focus on the introduction and development of: dribbling, passing, and shooting through games and instruction. As the classes advance, defensive concepts and team play may be introduced. The YMCA will offer two sessions. Session One is for children ages 4-5 on Tuesdays or Wednesdays from 4:30 to 5:15 p.m. Session Two is for children ages 5-6 and will run on Wednesdays from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. The program runs for nine weeks beginning Oct. 7 and 8.
Cost is $40 for members and $50 for nonmembers. Each class is limited to 16 kids, so please register early. YMCA also will be running a YMCA Rookies league for children who have completed the skills and drills program in the past and are in kindergarten or first grade. Winthrop YMCA fall/winter updates
WINTHROP – Winthrop Area YMCA Over-35 adult basketball will start Sunday, Oct. 19.
The program runs weekly from 5 to 7 p.m. at Winthrop Grade School gym. Cost for the entire year is $7. The program will run until mid-April.
Participants are reminded to not bring their children with them for this program.
Winthrop Area YMCA Family Open Gym will begin Sunday, Nov. 2, running weekly from 2 to 5 p.m. at Winthrop Grade School gym.
The program is open to all ages. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult. There is no cost for this program.
The lights at the Winthrop Tennis/Basketball and Skate Park now have a button to turn them on.
Simply push the button, and the lights will stay on for 1 hour. Lights work from dusk to 10 p.m. The button is located on the fence on the back right corner.

Rumford Elks No. 862 soccer shootout Sunday
RUMFORD – Rumford Lodge of Elks No. 862 will host its annual Soccer Shootout for area children Sunday, Sept. 28.
The event is slated for the practice field at Hosmer Field. Registration will start at 9:30 a.m., with the shootout at 10 a.m. All participants must be accompanied by a parent for their signature and with a copy of their birth certificate.
There will be boys’ and girls’ divisions for ages 7 and under, 8-9, 10-11 and 12-13. Prizes will be awarded to the first, second, and third-place winners in each division. Certificates and ribbons will be presented to all participants.
