Bates, Bowdoin split
BRUNSWICK – The Bowdoin and Bates softball teams split a doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon, with the Polar Bears taking Game 1, 8-0, and the Bobcats claiming Game 2, 2-1.
The first game saw Bowdoin pull out a convincing victory behind the stellar pitching of Emily Nelson. Nelson allowed just one hit and struck out 10 Bobcats as the game was called due to the eight-run-rule following five innings of play.
Danielle Chagnon was a one-woman wrecking crew for Bowdoin, hammering out three hits in three at-bats, including a three-run homer and an RBI single.
The nightcap saw a pair of solo home runs by Katie Franklin lift Bates to a 2-1 win.
Franklin tagged Nelson for a solo shot in the third inning, but Bowdoin rallied to tie things in the sixth on a key two-out RBI single from Megan Rodgers.
Franklin answered for Bates with another roundtripper in the top of the seventh off Bowdoin’s Caitlin Polistena as Bobcat hurler Kristin Masino silenced the Bowdoin bats, allowing just four hits.
