GORHAM — Junior wing Aaron Perkins scored a hat trick as Edward Little skated to a 6-1 victory over Windham-Westbrook in boys’ ice hockey Saturday evening.

The Red Eddies scored three goals in each of the second and third periods. Eli Thibodeau provided four assists, while Ben Cassidy had a goal and an assist. The Edward Little first line was difficult for the Eagles to defend against.

Derek Corbett scored on a pass from Keegan Pock at the 13:00 mark of the third period for Windham-Westbrook to spoil the shoutout.

Sophomore wing Cam Sturgis notched his first varsity goal for the Red Eddies to open the scoring at 2:08 of the second period.

Girls’ basketball

Mt. Abram 67, Spruce Mountain 40

SALEM — Senior forward Summer Ross tickled the twines with a game-high 28 points as Mt. Abram sailed to a 67-40 victory over Spruce Mountain in girls’ basketball action Saturday afternoon.

The Roadrunners (1-0) were in command from the start. The Pheonix (0-1) got as close as four points on one occasion. And, the fourth quarter was pocked with a barrage of foul shots as Mt. Abram notched a 25-9 margin in the frame.

Senior forward Meg Sorel contributed 14 points for Mt. Abram, while junior guard Haley Turcotte sank five field goals, including a three-pointer, for a team-high 11 points for Spruce Mountain in the losing effort.

Hall-Dale 36, Telstar 29

BETHEL — Kayla Searles paced Hall-Dale with 10 points as the Bulldogs defeated Telstar 36-29 in a MVC contest.

Sabrina Freeman chipped in nine points in Hall-Dale’s opening contest of the season.

Julia Cherkis paced the Rebels (0-1) with eight points while Luci Rothwell had five points.

Leavitt 66, Mt. Ararat 37

TOPSHAM — Sophia Gilbert dazzled with 26 points, seven steals and 11 rebounds as Leavitt buzzed to a 66-37 victory over Mt. Ararat in girls’ basketball action Friday night.

The Hornets (1-0) built a 38-15 halftime lead. Taylor White provided 13 points, while Jayden Carpenter contributed another 12 points for Leavitt.

Theresa Breed managed the bulk of the Eagles’ offense with a team-high 21 points in the losing effort.
