LEWISTON — Goodwill will close its Lewiston storefront on 1035 Lisbon St. Saturday, Dec. 30, according to Goodwill spokeswoman Heather Steeves.

In a news release Steeves said that with the Auburn store, which is newer and bigger, five miles down the road, they can no longer continue both stores.

“It’s been a lovely 50 years serving the city,” she wrote. “Lewiston has a big place in our hearts and Goodwill will still provide much-needed workforce programs in the area, helping connect people to great jobs.”

None of the employees were laid off, and some of the Lewiston employees will start working in the Auburn store.

“With more sales associates we expect the Auburn store will have even more fresh finds on the floor every day, and the great customer service our Lewiston customers expect,” Steeves said.

Goodwill’s Lifeworks, which offers day programming and care for adults with intellectual disabilities, will still be available in Lewiston, but now at Westside, 618 Main St.

Take 2 YouthBuild, a Goodwill-run program that helps renovate Lewiston’s old housing stock into safe and affordable homes, is also unaffected by this move.

Lewiston’s Goodwill is offering sales through Dec. 30 to help clear their racks:

• 25 percent off all donated items for Club Goodwill members only through Dec. 9;

• 25 percent off all donated items for everyone Dec. 10-16; and

• 50 percent off all donated items for everyone Dec. 17-29.

The Goodwill store at 1035 Lisbon St. will be closing its doors Dec. 30.
