Another three to 11 inches of snow are expected to fall Tuesday, adding to the 6 inches in Lewiston, 5 inches in Bethel and 8 inches that fell in Carrabassett Valley on Saturday.

National Weather Service meteorologist James Brown said to expect 5 to 6 inches of snow in Lewiston/Auburn before it changes to a mix with rain.

A strong flow of warm air will bring more rain closer to the coast and more snow farther north into the mountains, Brown said.

Areas like Rangeley can expect snowfall totals of between 8 and 12 inches.

The snow is expected to start falling heavily around 8 a.m., Brown said.

The heaviest snow will be over central and northern New Hampshire and northern Maine during the day Tuesday, impacting both the morning and evening commutes, according to the National Weather Service.

A winter storm warning and winter weather advisory are in effect from 4 a.m. Tuesday until 1 a.m. Wednesday.

Lewiston Public Works Director Dave Jones said the department isn’t doing anything out of the ordinary for this storm.

“Most of our equipment was still hooked up because of the storm over the weekend,” he said. “Whatever was unhooked will be hooked up tonight or first thing tomorrow.

Jones said they do have a grader and a plow truck down, but will be filling in with other machinery as needed.

“As always, if people do not need to be out and about during the storm, they should stay home,” Jones added. “This makes it easier for our guys doing the plowing and makes it safer for all.”

Lewiston has issued a parking ban from 6 p.m. Tuesday until 6 a.m. Wednesday.

Auburn has a parking ban in place from noon Tuesday until 6 a.m. Wednesday.
