French Sing-Along canceled

LEWISTON — The French Sing-Along scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 12, at D’Youville Chapel has been canceled due to the weather forecast.

Rotary postpones senior luncheon

GREENWOOD — The Bethel Rotary has postponed the annual Senior Citizen Holiday Luncheon to Thursday, Dec. 14, at the Locke Mills Legion Hall.

The doors will open at 11:30 a.m., with the luncheon served at noon. 

Foster grandparents, senior companions sought

The Opportunity Alliance has openings for Foster Grandparents and Senior Companions in Cumberland, York and Oxford counties for adults 55 and older to make a difference in the lives of others while earning a little extra money.

Foster Grandparents mentor and support academic achievement of children in schools. Senior Companions provide companionship, local transportation and respite to elders seeking to remain living in their homes.

Volunteers who commit to a minimum of 15 hours a week and whose income is below income guidelines will receive a tax-free stipend, mileage reimbursement and other benefits, including monthly training.

Eagles plan monthly poker

RUMFORD — Fraternal Order of Eagles will host Texas Hold’em poker tournaments on the second Thursday of each month starting Dec. 14.

Doors will open at 4 p.m. Games will start at 6 p.m. There will be a $50 buy-in with a $5 high hand as well as a 50/50 raffle. The kitchen will be open from 4 to 6 p.m.

Horse-drawn wagon rides offered

FARMINGTON — Downtown Business Association’s annual Santa Loop will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, at Farmington Public Library.

Free horse-drawn wagon rides will take children to various locations throughout downtown for holiday activities, all leading up to the final stop to visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus.
