BRUNSWICK – Greg Stacy had four hits, including a home run in the fifth inning as Southern Maine routed Bowdoin 12-3 in baseball action Wednesday afternoon.

Stacy finished with two RBIs and scored twice. Nick Vardaro and Joe McGhee each hit doubles and combined for five hits for the Huskies (9-6-1).

Kevin Bougie slammed a home run in the first inning for Bowdoin (14-5). John Clifford and Ricky Leclerc were each credited with RBIs for the loss as well.

Brian Marshall pitched eight innings for the Huskies, giving up five hits.

UMF 9, Colby 2

WATERVILLE – Zachary Reed ripped a grand slam and pitched a complete game to lead University of Maine at Farmington to a 9-2 victory over Colby in baseball action.

Reed’s big blow came during a six-run eighth inning that turned a 3-2 UMF lead into a 9-2 margin. Reed gave up nine hits and two earned runs in the win and finished with two hits, two runs and four RBIs. Kris Garrow, Peter McLaughlin, John Rutkiewicz, and Eric Cummings all had two hits for UMF.

Tom Salemy and Andy Carr both had two hits for Colby. Tyler Hales added an RBI double for the Mules effort.

Bates 5, Husson 4

LEWISTON – Bates snapped a deadlock on RBI singles by Adam Taranto and Nate Maxwell to defeat Husson 5-4.

Adam Sheehan’s two-run double helped the Braves (10-7) build a 3-0 lead, but Bates (6-7), aided by three consecutive walks with two outs, tied it with a three-run fifth.

John Ribas sealed the win with two scoreless innings of relief.

Tufts 12, Bowdoin 11

MEDFORD, Mass. – Tufts University built a six-goal lead in the fourth quarter and then withstood a furious rally by Bowdoin College to post a 12-11 victory.

Mike O’Brien, Bryan Griffin, and Devin Clarke combined for nine goals for the Tufts (6-1) win. Mark Warner, Evan Saulsbury, and Casey D’Annolfo each netted a goal apiece.

Phil Stern and Carl Klimt tallied a pair of goals a piece, while Ford Gurall, Ford Barker, Connor Fitzgerald, Andy Nelson, Kevin Mullins, Joe Andrasko, and Pat Ryan combined to make up the difference for the Bowdoin effort.

Colby 10, Bates 9

LEWISTON – Josh Cleaver scored five goals and Mike Haimes came back from an injury to score three goals and record one assist to spark Colby to a 10-9 victory over Bates Wednesday afternoon.

Ryan Glennon and Rory Murphy each had one goal and one assist for Colby.

The Bobcats (2-5, 1-4) effort was paced by Matt Erisman, Mark Boccard, and David Pritchard each tallying a pair of goals.

Trinity 15, Bates 13

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Bates dropped its fifth consecutive game with a 15-13 defeat to Trinity.

Lori Jessup led Bates with five goals, while Erica Nason and Becky Castle scored three each.

Plymouth State 18, Southern Maine 3

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Senior co-captains Katie Sheridan and Michelle Norton combined for nine goals Wednesday as Plymouth State routed the Southern Maine 18-3.

Undefeated Plymouth State (6-0) took a 4-0 lead less than 10 minutes into the game, and extended it to 14-2 by halftime.
