LEWISTON — The Bates men’s basketball team suffered another heartbreaking loss on its home floor, falling to St. Joseph’s 75-72 in overtime Tuesday at Alumni Gymnasium.
The Bobcats also lost to Brandeis on a buzzer-beater Sunday. Tuesday was their third close game in five days, as they defeated Babson 78-75 on Friday.
Jeff Spellman paced Bates (7-5) with 28 points, and Kody Greenhalgh finished with 12.
St. Joseph’s Darian Berry made 10-of-13 shots from the field to tie Spellman for game-high scoring honors with 28. Edward Little graduate Ian Mileikis contributed 11 points in the Monks’ win.
The Bobcats host Bowdoin for their NESCAC opener Friday night.
Women’s basketball
St. Joseph’s 77, Bates 66
LEWISTON — The Bates College women’s basketball team became the latest victim of streaking St. Joseph’s, losing 77-66 at Alumni Gymnasium on Tuesday.
The Monks (9-1) won their eighth straight game, dating back to Nov. 17.
Kelsi McNamara scored a game-high 28 point, including 11-for-11 from the free-throw line for the Monks. Emily Benway added 23 points, making 11-of-13 from the field, in 21 minutes.
Nina Davenport made a career-high six 3-pointers and finished with 27 points for Bates, which lost for the first time in four games and falls to 5-7 on the season. Melanie Binkhorst contributed 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists for the Bobcats, and Lexie Nason came off the bench to score six points and pull down nine rebounds.
Bates opens NESCAC play Friday at Bowdoin, the nation’s seventh-ranked team.
