DEAR SUN SPOTS: Everybody reads Sun Spots. This is why the Edward Little High School Class of 1953 Reunion Committee is reaching out to classmates through this column. Our 65th reunion will be held Sept. 22, 2018, from noon to 4 p.m. at the Carriage House, 1119 Lisbon St., Lewiston. Notices will be mailed to classmates in July. Classmates who have changed their mailing address within the past five years are asked to notify either Bob Swift, 966-1076, rws@megalink.net or Monique Gobeil Gagne, 783-0042, monndy@roadrunner.com.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Can you find out why the sidewalks from Lincoln Street to Locust Street aren’t cleared of snow? Pedestrians have to walk in the streets and people drive well over the speed limit to beat the traffic lights. There is a school bus stop at Lincoln Circle and many of these kids, including my grandson, have to walk in the streets to get there. With all the talk about preventing pedestrian deaths, clearing the sidewalks in a high foot-traffic area would greatly reduce the potential for accidents. My daughter is thinking about holding my grandson out of school until the city provides a safe way to get to the bus stop.
I love the enthusiasm you bring to Sun Spots. Keep it up!

ANSWER: Whenever someone has a concern about the streets and sidewalks not being cleared, or anything else that the city is in charge of, the very best way to report it is to go to the city’s website at http://www.ci.lewiston.me.us/. At the bottom of the home page is an icon labeled: “Report a Concern.” Click on it and a web mail will open for you to fill out. Staff members are assigned to field these emails and get them to the right person pronto!
The second-best way to voice a concern is to call Community Relations Coordinator Dottie Perham-Whittier at 513-3018. Dottie will be sure your concern is heard and handled.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Regarding the collection of soda tabs, Danville Junction Grange in Auburn has been collecting them for Ronald MacDonald House for years. Since the Grange is temporarily closed for renovations, tabs may be dropped off at 1267 Old Danville Road, on the corner of Old Danville Road and Moosebrook Road, across from Morin Brick Co. Thank you for your excellent column! What would we ever do without you?
— No name, Auburn
ANSWER: Save those tabs and let Ronald McDonald House know that Sun Spots is spreading the word. Readers can also contact Mary Ann Norcross at 783-6651. She is willing to pick up your tabs and get them to Portland.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: My husband has a very small hole in wool pants that he loves. Do you have a name of anyone who does invisible mending?
—No name, no town
ANSWER: Alterations by Judy at 906 Sabattus St. (783-6201) can help you. Judy also let me know she makes memory items such as bears and wall hangings, alters formal gowns, and replaces heavy-duty zippers in jackets and even tents!
Beal’s Dry Cleaners at 51 Hampshire St. in Auburn (784-8581) also does sewing repairs and alterations. Readers, do you have any other suggestions?
