Dear Sun Spots: Thank you for your extremely helpful column! I am
looking for summer kids/teen cooking classes in the area. I have
searched but cannot find any.

Also, I would like to petition the city of Lewiston to install speed
bumps or some other type of traffic slowing on my street. Where do I
start? Thank you. — No Name, Lewiston.

Answer: Sun Spots was unsuccessful in finding cooking classes for kids. Perhaps a reader will have some suggestions.

In addition to your second request, start by contacting Paul Boudreau, director of the Public Works Department for Lewiston.

Boudreau said he will need the specific location of where you would like the raised
crosswalk. Once all of the necessary information is gathered, the request needs to go to City
Council for approval and funding.

He noted that raised crosswalks are not permitted on a federal highway route,
such as Main Street, Sabattus Street or Lisbon Street. On state roads, permission from the state is required, but is not readily
given.

Dear Sun Spots: I’m making pillowcases for the ConKerr Cancer Foundation in the hope the children who have been affected with cancer can have a cheery pillowcase for the hospital stays. I would love to have donations of boy or girl prints of material.

Marden’s has wonderful fabric at $1.99 to $2.99 a yard, which is what I need, in blue, red, pink, yellow or holiday prints. One yard makes a case with borders that I intermix. A gift credit is welcome or any donations would be so helpful.

I just spent $87 for pillowcase fabric. It’s hard to do that every month. My goal is to make 50 pillowcases for Christmas and deliver them to Central Maine Medical Center and other hospitals. All material will be documented for the pillowcase fund for a log. I may be contacted at (207) 364-4219 or Brenda Austin, 7 Summit St., Mexico ME 04257. — Brenda, Mexico.

Dear Sun Spots: We had a yard sale on July 25 and a gentleman bought a SpotLifter Powerbrush. We have since found the user guide and will mail it to him if he gives us a call at 784-1223. Thank you so much in advance. — No Name, No Town.

Dear Sun Spots: The Cub Scout Pack/Boy Scout Troop 137 sponsored by the High Street Congregational Church UCC of Auburn are in need of, and looking to acquire two laptop computers that are wireless compatible. These laptops will be used for training and education purposes for the Scout Pack and Troop Leaders, parents and Scouts.

Dear Sun Spots: I would like to let the readers know about Trinity Lutheran Church’s upcoming old-fashioned barbecue benefit for Beth’s House on Saturday, Aug. 8, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Trinity is on Route 117 (34 Buckfield Road) in South Paris and is handicapped accessible. It will be rain or shine with indoor seating provided; the donation of $7 per person covers barbecue meats, various salads and sundaes with homemade vanilla ice cream.

Proceeds will benefit area resident Beth Coffin, 24, in her dream for a safe place to live. To read about Beth visit her at www.myspace.com/bethshouse1. — Debi, Trinity secretary.
