LEWISTON — Lorraine Marie (Gilbert) LeBrun, our beloved Mother and Nana, passed peacefully on Friday, Feb. 9, with her loving family by her side. She was born in Richmond on June 8, 1929, a devoted daughter to parents Vital and Estelle (Sirois) Gilbert.
Lorraine spoke fondly of and cherished the memories of her childhood years visiting the farm, horseback riding, and goodtime sleepovers with her cousins in the country. When Lorraine was 13, her family moved to Lewiston where she attended St. Joseph’s School and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1947. Lorraine had a knack for bookkeeping and truly enjoyed her employment at Murphy Monuments for 31 years. She found a second career at Linnell Choate & Webber where she remained until retiring in 1996.
Lorraine wed Raymond LeBrun in August 1955, and they spent the past 62 years together. She was a communicant of St Patrick’s and Holy Family churches. Family was their focus and passion in the raising of their three daughters. Family time was important, whether it be traveling near or far as a family, or just spending many great weekends right in our wonderful backyard. Mom encouraged us to blaze our own trail while practicing the golden rule. Later in life, Mom traveled to visit her daughters in Boston, grandchildren in Virginia and Florida, hiking in Hawaii, climbing in Aspen, and safariing in Zimbabwe. She was game for anything.
The backyard on East Avenue was the neighborhood summer camp where a good time was enjoyed by all. A lifelong sports enthusiast, from the time she caught a Ted Williams ball at Fenway, she was a faithful Sox fan eclipsed only by her grandchildren, Darrieus’s football and Kyndall’s soccer. Days spent playing and learning with Kyah, her great-granddaughter, renewed her. She was very understated yet touched so many lives in so many ways. Mom was easy to share a smile or make you laugh, make you know you were loved. She was eternally kind and patient and we will miss her immeasurably. We love you Mom!
Lorraine is survived by her husband Raymond; daughters, Donna, Estelle and Lisa; grandchildren Darrieus and Kyndall; and the light of her life, great-granddaughter Kyah, all of Lewiston.
