MINOT – A body found Wednesday morning on the banks of the Androscoggin River was that of a 26-year-old local man who had committed suicide, police said Thursday.
It was believed the man had jumped from a nearby bridge.
Police were sent to an area of the river near the Minot Country Store on Minot Avenue after a report that a body had surfaced there.
The body was found on the river bank after a search. It was later taken to the Maine Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy. A representative from that office said Thursday afternoon that the cause of death was ruled to be “sharp force injuries” as a result of suicide.
The incident had been widely reported Wednesday on social media as an accidental drowning.
