Five forwards and three defenseman, all from playoff teams, make up the eight semifinalists in the running for this year’s Travis Roy Award.

Now in its 23rd year, the award is handed out by the Class A Hockey Coaches Association and given to the top Class A senior boys’ hockey player in the state.

Of the eight semifinalists, three come from Class A North, including a player from each of the Twin Cities — Lewiston defenseman Ryan Bossie and St. Dominic Academy forward Mack Pelletier. Both players are captains. Cole Lockhart, a forward from Cony/Monmouth/Hall-Dale, also represents the North region.

Semifinalists from the South region are: Biddeford forward Colin Lavigne, Cheverus defenseman Mike Hatch, Falmouth forward Theo Hembre, Portland/Deering defenseman Cam King and Thornton Academy forward Chandler Bilodeau.

Bossie would be the fourth winner for the Blue Devils, and second in a row after Jeromey Rancourt won last year. Pelletier would also give the Saints a fourth award recipient, and first since current assistant coach Richard Paradis won in 2009.

Cheverus and Cony/Monmouth/Hall-Dale have never had a player win the award, while Biddeford has had three winners, Falmouth two, Thornton one and Portland one as a lone entity.

The four finalists will be announced after Saturday’s Class A state championship game, and the winner will be named at the Class A Hockey Coaches Association’s annual banquet later this month.
