TRENTON, N.J. (AP) – Jason Grove homered twice, including a two-run blast in the ninth, to head off extra innings and give the Trenton Thunder a 5-3 win over the Portland Sea Dogs on Wednesday.

Michael Vento opened scoring for the Thunder with a two-run homer of his own in the fourth.

Grove had a solo shot in the fifth, and then scored himself and Bo Robinson to break a 3-3 tie in the ninth.

Trenton closer Adam Roller (2-3) allowed four hits and walked one while pitching a scoreless 1 1-3 innings.

Portland jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on an RBI double by Kelly Shoppach in the first inning. But the Thunder jumped ahead on Vento’s homer and never trailed again.

-Sea Dogs reliever Juan Perez (1-1) allowed two runs on three hits in 1 1-3 innings.
