LEWISTON — Rodney A. Pettengill, 85, a resident of Leeds, died Wednesday, March 28, at CMMC in Lewiston with his loving family by his side.
His family remembers him as a generous, selfless, hardworking, devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather and a great friend. He was born Jan. 18, 1933, the son of J. Russell Pettengill Sr. and Marion L. (Burgess) Pettengill in Leeds. He attended Leeds schools and was a 1951 graduate of Monmouth Academy. On Aug. 16, 1952, in Sabattus, he married Shirley Foster of Wales. Rodney began his 66-year career in printing in 1952, starting his own business with his son Bruce in 1972 by founding Pettengill Printing in Leeds. Following his retirement, he was always ready and available to give a helping hand when needed. He was involved with his community and served as a volunteer on the Leeds Fire Department for many years. Rodney enjoyed camping, fishing, woodworking, Model A’s and Ford tractors, but he especially loved time spent with his family and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Shirley Pettengill of Leeds, three sons; Bruce Pettengill and his wife, Jean, of Leeds, Michael Pettengill and his wife, Jackie, of Auburn and Greg Pettengill and his wife, Michelle, of Lewiston, eight grandchildren, Megan Niemi, Darcy Letourneau, Conner, Carly and Matthew Pettengill, Kelsey Bisson, Jeremy Pettengill and Emily Paione, five great-grandchildren, Trent, Asa, Ashley, Lillian and Everett, .and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers, John R. Pettengill Jr., and Gilbert O. Pettengill, his sister, Geraldine Saunders and grandson Justin Pettengill.
