BETHEL — Zachary Hill pitched a complete-game no-hitter with nine strikeouts and one walk as Telstar notched a 1-0 victory over Boothbay in baseball action Monday afternoon.
The Rebels committed two errors in the top of the seventh inning that nearly cost them the game, but they held on for the win.
Hunter Crocker suffered the hard-luck loss for the Seahawks.
Edward Little 5, Gardiner 2
AUBURN — Austin Brown had three hits, including a two-run, two-out single in the sixth inning, to lead Edward Little to a 5-2 triumph over Gardiner in baseball action Monday afternoon.
The Red Eddies (5-0) trailed 2-0 through four innings following a shaky start. Pitcher Grant Hartley took control of the game after giving up two first-inning hits and then having the runs score on a pair of errors.
Tigers (1-2) pitcher Alic Shorey tossed four scoreless innings before Edward Little posted three runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Dirigo 7, Oak Hill 5
WALES — Senior Cameron Turner had two hits, including a home run, and drove four runs as Dirigo secured a 7-5 victory over Oak Hill in baseball action Monday afternoon.
The Cougars picked up the tempo with a three-run fifth inning for a 5-1 lead. But the Raiders managed to generate a little offense of their own with a three-run frame in the bottom of the sixth to trail by just one, 5-4.
Dirigo put the game away in the seventh inning with two runs to Oak Hill’s one.
Poland 14, Fryeburg 6
POLAND — Senior catcher Gabe Crosby collected three hits as Poland cruised to a 14-6 victory over Fryeburg in baseball action Monday afternoon.
The Knights (1-4) scored in each of their six innings at the plate. Pitcher Brady Downing struck out eight, and helped his cause offensively with two RBIs for Poland.
Dawson Jones had two hits and an RBI for the Raiders (1-2-1) in the losing effort.
Lisbon 14, Mtn. Valley 7
RUMFORD — DJ Douglas went 3-for-4 with two runs and three RBIs as Lisbon doubled up Mountain Valley 14-7 in baseball action Monday.
The Greyhounds (2-0) put up 11 runs in the third and fourth innings combined. Noah Austin and Lucas Francis had a double and two runs each for Lisbon.
Cody Hemmingway had a pair of doubles and scored twice for the Falcons (3-1) in the losing effort.
Softball
Gardiner 6, Edward Little 2
AUBURN — A series of errors led to much of the scoring in the last three innings as Gardiner dispatched Edward Little 6-2 in softball action Monday afternoon.
With two outs in a scoreless top of the fifth inning, Gardiner’s Meg Meehan was hit by a pitch, Maddie Farnham walked and Haley Brann reached on an error. Meehan and Farnham then scored unearned runs on wild pitches.
Maggie Bell, who had two hits including a double in the game, was the beneficiary of an error in both of the sixth and seventh innings for the Tigers (2-1). Bell led off the sixth with a single before stealing second and moving to third on an error. She then scored on a misplayed fielder’s choice.
Grace Beaudet broke up the Tiger’s attempt at a no-hitter with a single in the fifth inning for the Red Eddies (3-2).
Oak Hill 13, Dirigo 1
WALES — Molly Flaherty hurled four innings of one-hit softball and drew ample run support as Oak Hill rolled to a 13-1 victory over Dirigo on Monday.
Kiera Young led the Raiders (4-1) with three hits and two RBIs, while Abby Nadeau and Julia Ahlberg combined for four hits and three RBIs.
Katie Morse ripped a double for Dirigo (1-2). Ashley Perreault went the distance for the Cougars and suffered the loss.
Gray-NG 4, Lake Region 0
BRIDGTON — Ali Martel struck out 12 and gave up only two hits Monday as Gray-New Gloucester hustled to a 4-0 victory over Lale Region in an early-season softball tilt.
The Patriots (3-2) scored the game-winning run in the first frame when Alexa Thayer walked and later scored on a sacrifice ground out by Jordan Grant.
Gray-New Gloucester added two insurance runs in the fifth inning on back-to-back triples by Martel and Thayer.
Poland 4, Fryeburg 0
POLAND — Ally Gagne struck out eight as Poland rolled to a 4-0 early-season softball win over Fryeburg on Monday.
Chloe Tufts and Shelby LaFrinea led the Knights with two hits and one RBI each. Kailyn Eskuri also contributed with an RBI double in the fourth.
Brooke Juneau led Fryeburg with a double.
Oxford Hills 9, Leavitt 1
TURNER — Lauren Merrill gave up one hit in five innings as Oxford Hills hustled to a 9-1 softball victory over Leavitt on Monday.
Merrill, Kori Kahkonen and Ashley Childs led the Vikings with two hits and two RBIs each.
Hannah DeBlois led the Hornets with a one-run double in the sixth.
Lisbon 29, Mountain Valley 0, 5 innings
RUMFORD — Abby Miner gave up two hits in five innings of work as Lisbon easily overpowered Mountain Valley 29-0 in a lop-sided softball tilt Monday.
Giana Russo led the Greyhounds with four hits and seven RBIs, while Mallory Fairbanks plated three runs on three hits. Miner helped her cause with two hits and two RBIs.
Saydie Garbarini went the distance for winless Mountain Valley (0-4).
Boys’ lacrosse
Wells 15, Gray-NG 10
GRAY — Ethan Marsh netted seven goals as Wells powered to a 15-10 victory over Gray-New Gloucester in boys’ lacrosse action Monday.
The Warriors led 7-4 at the half. Chad Fitzpatrick added four goals for Wells.
Shayne Splint and Kyle Mercier found the back of the net three times each for Gray-New Gloucester in the losing effort.
