AUBURN — Two Central Maine Community College (CMCC) students were among the 14 Maine community college students named to the 2018 All-Maine Academic Team for two-year colleges. The CMCC students receiving the award, which includes a $500 scholarship, are Angela Cafarelli of Greene and Mark Swiedom of Hebron.

Cafarelli is a high honors student in the human services program. A co-facilitator for Maine’s Youth Leadership Advising Team (YLAT), Cafarelli works full time at CVS as a pharmacy technician. She is a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, and plans to continue her education after CMCC to earn a bachelor’s degree in social work, then a master’s degree in human services. She hopes to become a caseworker in the human services field.

Swiedom is a student in the medical coding and electronic health records program. A member of Phi Theta Kappa, he will graduate with President’s Honors this spring and will continue his studies in the Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management Program through the City of New York School of Professional Studies. Swiedom may also pursue graduate studies in health information management and is considering a career in health information and research or as community college faculty member.

The All-Maine Academic Team is a program of Phi Theta Kappa, an international honor society for two-year colleges, and recognizes outstanding academic achievement, leadership and service.
