LIVERMORE — A camp, shed and fence were destroyed in fire that heavily damaged another camp on Brettons Pond early Friday, fire officials said.
“There is no evidence of crime,” investigator Chris Stanford of the state Fire Marshal’s Office said.
The fire started in a shed belonging to Henry Gagnon of New Gloucester, and spread to his camp and another one, Stanford said.
The camp belonging to the children of Joe Pete Dube, including Wayne and Bill Dube, burned to the ground, Fire Chief Don Castonguay said.
A wooden fence between the two properties and a dock also burned.
Gagnon’s camp was built in 1957 and had been in the family for three generations, according to Tim Bell, a family member who lives across from the scene. He called 911 at 2:45 a.m. to report the shed was burning. Flames spread to the Dube camp, then to Gagnon’s, he said. Neither of them had been opened for the season, he said.
The fire chief said the Dube camp was not insured, but Gagnon’s was.
More than 25 firefighters from Buckfield, Canton, Jay, Leeds, Livermore, Livermore Falls, Turner, Farmington and Wilton responded to the scene off Keith Street. The Mexico Fire Department air trailer was used to fill firefighter air packs.
“The firefighters were great,” Bell said. “They got here so fast.”
