LEWISTON – My name is Shannon Clarke. I am 9 years old and I’m in the fourth grade and am home schooled. I live in Greene with my sister, Abbey, Billy and Colleen (they’re twins), Tim, my half brother, and my mom and my dad. I have a furry little hamster named Alex. I’m the kind of kid who likes to play sports like soccer and basketball and bike riding.
The title of the book I recommend is “White Water” by P.J. Petersen. It is a water rafting adventure story. The main character is Greg. The story takes place on the river rapids where there were mountains on the sides of the river that made it seem like you were in between cliffs.
The main character’s biggest problem is that his father was bitten by a rattlesnake in the middle of the trip. The most exciting part of this book was when Greg saw his father getting bitten by the rattlesnake. That part of the book made me feel scared because the father might die, and he might not get to the hospital in time.
This book is so good because it’s so outdoorish that it makes you want to go white water rafting with your dad. You should read this book too if you like water, going on boats, and having water activities.
This is one of my favorite books ever. I give it four * * * * stars.
Shannon participates in the Hooked on Books parent/child book group at the Lewiston Public Library. Hooked on Books meets once a month on a Saturday. After a brief group discussion, the children and their parents work together on a book-related project. For “White Water” the children learned how to make a variety of knots.
If interested in joining thie group, register through the Children’s Room. For more information and meeting dates, call 784-0135, extension 4.
