Look Good
LEWISTON – A Look Good … Feel Better program, the American Cancer Society’s program for assisting women who are faced with appearance changes resulting from cancer treatment, will be offered from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 11, at Central Maine Medical Center’s Cynthia A. Rydholm Cancer Treatment Center.
A volunteer from the National Cosmetology Association will teach a small group of women how to apply cosmetics specific to their individual needs. Hair and wig styling will also be discussed. Wigs are available through purchase or loan. Each participant will be given a complimentary bag of cosmetics made available through the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association Foundation.

DURHAM – The Androscoggin County Firefighters Association will meet at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, at the Durham Fire Station.
DAR speaker
AUBURN – Mary Dillingham Chapter, DAR, will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 11, at Rolandeau’s Restaurant. Guest speaker will be Past State Regent Susie Tukey. Prospective members are invited.
Strawberry fest
AUBURN – The Androscoggin Valley Past Noble Grands Association will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, at 50 Elm St. A strawberry festival will be held with past noble grands from other districts attending. A potluck supper will be served at 6:30 p.m. Committee members are Martha Shorette and Suzanne O’Connor. All past noble grands are invited.
Rockhounding
LISBON FALLS – The Lisbon Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, in the archive and meeting room, 9 Union St.
Toby Conroy, Bob and Ruth Howarth, all of Lisbon, will present a program on “Rockhounding in Maine.” A mineral display will be held during June and July.
The program is free and open to the public.
Robin Dow
AUBURN – Robin Dow Senior Citizens will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 11, at the American Legion Hall, Washington Street. The board of directors will meet at 10 a.m. A food sale will be held after the meeting, and members are reminded to bring homemade goodies or flowers for the sale. There will be no raffle.
President Audrey Fleming presided at the May 28 meeting with 68 members present. Edwina Bonney, a new member, was welcomed. May birthdays were noted.
Doris Michael announced the following trips: Fairpoint, Aug. 4; Bermuda cruise, Aug. 10; Wentworth by the Sea Hotel, Sept. 2; the Balsalms, Oct. 13; mystery tour, Oct. 26 to 29; and Radio Daze in Randolph, Mass., Nov. 11. Attendance prize winners were Virginia Houston and Marion Drapeau; pot of gold, Burleigh Edwards, Flo Bailey and Felix Yurkston. After the meeting and bag lunch a memorial service was held for members who died during the year. Lucy Cowles was assisted by Chaplain Bernice Parks, Audrey Fleming, Kay Koss and Caroline Chapman with Virginia Gagne as pianist and vocalist.
Breastfeeding
AUBURN – Expectant women and breastfeeding mothers are invited to a La Lech League meeting at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, June 12, at 102 Bennett Ave. Babies are welcome. Discussion will focus on “Breastfeeding: Great Beginnings.” Call 782-6645 for more information.

LEWISTON – The Maine Writers and Publishers Alliance will sponsor an informal Writers’ Jam Session from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, June 12, at the Mr. Paperback Cafe, Promenade Mall, Lisbon Street.

DURHAM – Alfred “Shorty” Wheeler showed his patriotic colors while celebrating his 80th birthday during a party at the Amvets Hall in Durham recently. Wheeler and his wife, Alberta, of 59 years celebrated at an afternoon of music and dancing along with more than 200 friends and relatives. Volunteers from the Good Shepherd Food Bank in Auburn, where Wheeler does volunteer work, were also present.
