AUBURN – Students from Auburn intermediate schools participated in the annual Auburn schools’ grade five math meet on May 1 at Webster School.

The event was part of the ongoing math enrichment through the Auburn Gifted and Talented Program facilitated by Joanie Simard and Carrie Beaulieu. Students competed for team points in individual and team events which required participants to solve problems involving calculations, logical thinking and visual-spatial math.

The team consisting of Dawn Sylvester, Ben Denison, Katie Read, Casey Myrick and Jared Girardin placed first. In second was the team composed of Andrew Schindler, Matt Blanchard, Emily Dumont, Samantha Dean and Ashley Gallagher. Third place honors were shared by Sarah Thompson, Felicia Stewart, Jessica Staples, Tim Brodsky and Ryan Arnold.

Individual high scorer was Matt Blanchard, with Abby Holmes finishing second, Josh Bryant, third, and Elsa Brown, fourth.

Other participants included Natalie Bornstein, Emily Blackwood, Nick Brigham, Lauren Brown, Adam Chamberland, Clark Chamberlin, Jasmine Clarke, Alex Cummings, Jeremy Daigle.
