100 years ago, 1918
The feeling that this war is every blessed man’s, woman’s and child’s war is beginning to sink in, and the mothers and fathers who are giving so much in flesh and blood are giving all over again out of their many times scanty store of world’s goods. The city districts are coming across in a worthy measure. In Livermore Falls, or East Livermore, or somewhere up in the Livermores is Isaac Cleary, who is a “real live wire” said Mr. Sweet. Mr. Cleary talked to 40 men in a foundry and each one is going to give $5. He talked to 60 women in a factory and each is giving a day’s pay.
50 years ago, 1968
The annual Concert on the Green by the Edward Little High School band will be held tonight on the school lawn, beginning at 7 o’clock. Allen Simons, the director, will preside at the presentation of awards and scholarships. Scholarships to the music camp next summer will be given ‘to three members of the band, and then the program will close with Onward, Eddies and Auld Lang Syne dedicated to the graduates.
25 years ago, 1993
The Central Maine Medical Center School of Nursing graduated 38 students Thursday in a ceremony held at the Bates College Chapel in Lewiston. Robert E. Quinton, president of Quinco Fabrics, Inc. of Lewiston and a long-time member of the CMMC Board of Trustees, delivered the commencement address. CMMC President William W. Young Jr. offered the welcoming remarks. Having successfully completed the CMMC School of Nursing’s two-year, four-semester registered nursing program, the graduates were awarded associate degrees in the applied science of nursing.
