AUBURN – Gracelawn Memorial Park will hold its annual Memorial Day program at 12:15 p.m. Monday, May 26.

Participants will include soloist Kathy Haley, the Auburn Middle School Band, veterans’ organizations and Auburn Mayor Norman Guay.

Included in the program will be the raising of the flag accompanied by “Taps” and cannon fire. The flag of each branch of the armed services will be raised by family members of veterans interred at Gracelawn and the POW/MIA flag will be raised by Rose Dyck, sister of John Brooks, a Maine serviceman who is still listed as missing in action. As each flag is raised, Haley will lead those present in the singing of the anthem of that branch.

A wreath will be placed at the U.S. flagpole by representatives of veterans’ organizations. In addition, a second wreath will be placed this year to dedicate the new star-shaped garden in honor of the Gold Star Mothers, an organization founded shortly after World War I whose membership is composed of American mothers who have lost a son or daughter while in service to the country.

The program will conclude with singing of “God Bless America.”
