NEWRY – The Maine Elks Association held its annual awards banquet as part of the state convention at the Sunday River Resort. The Lewiston Elks Lodge 371 received recognition for its outstanding work in promoting the programs of the Elks.

The lodge received a third-place silver platter, recognizing it for its public relations work. The award was presented by Public Relations Director J. Michel Patry to Lewiston Lodge Public Relations Chairman Wayne Cotterly.

For the second year in a row, the lodge was designated as an All-American Lodge. The award is only presented to lodges that excel in promoting the programs of the Elks. To earn the award, the lodge competes against other lodges of similar membership by earning points based upon its participation in the Elks programs. Last year was the first time since 1993 that the lodge won the award under then-Exalted Ruler Wayne Cotterly.

Finally, Jackielynn Farrell received the “Exalted Ruler (lodge president) of the Year” Award for the Maine Central District. The award was presented by state third vice president Elmer Berry. It was a special moment for Berry and Farrell, as Berry had the opportunity to present the award to his daughter for her commitment to the Elks and the Lewiston Lodge.

The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks is a fraternal organization dedicated to promoting programs such as Americanism, Drug Awareness, Youth Activities and Veteran Services, as well as scholarships. For more information, contact the Lewiston Lodge at 784-4801.
