SABATTUS — Jackie Asselin, Lewiston Emblem Club 528 president, announced the winners of the annual Drug Awareness Contest — Ayla Odiorne and Tessa Courser, both of Sabattus.
Odiorne earned first with a poster depicting how drugs can affect a life, as well as how to avoid them, while Courser earned second with an essay, “Dreaming of a Drug-Free World.”
Asselin presented the students their awards during the weekly DARE class at Sabattus Elementary School. Odiorne received a $25 gift certificate, movie and roller-skating passes. Courser received movie and roller-skating passes. The contest was open to all fifth-graders at the school
The Emblem Club is the auxiliary of Lewiston Lodge of Elks 371 and supports such programs as drug awareness, literacy, Americanism and scholarships.
