NORWAY — Stone-Smart American Legion Post of Norway celebrated the 84th birthday of the legion at its March meeting.
The auxiliary put on a smothered beef supper prior to the meeting. Rose Moulton chaired the supper committee aided by Joyce Bickford, Pat Tibbetts and Marion Millett. Following supper, Cmdr. David Tilley introduced Department 2nd Vice Commander Gene Bickford, who spoke about the American Legion’s birthday and the programs the organization sponsors.
Tilley then introduced department historian Paul L’Heureux of Auburn who spoke of the history of the legion and told of the many scholarships that the legion has available.
The nominating committee, chaired by Roland Beaudoin, said it was nominating the present officers to fill their office for the 2003-04 year. Second nominations and elections will be held at the post’s April 9 meeting.
The post is still seeking new members. Any veteran interested can contact Tilley at 743-6794 or Adjutant Lee Millett at 743-2565.
