Class A Boys

Area athletes to watch: Oxford Hills — Dawson Stevens (100, 200, javelin), Dominic Sclafani (1,600 run, 3200 run); Edward Little — Russell Allen (400, 800, 4×400 relay), Fabrice Mpoyo (100, 200), Connor Jackson (high jump, triple jump, 110H, 300H), Alex Thompson (pole vault, javelin, long jump); Lewiston — Asad Abukar (300H), Connor Kaplinger (discus, javelin, shot put), Noor Hussein (shot put).

Area outlook: Dominic Sclafani finished in a close second in both distance events at KVACs and will face even faster competition saturday. Connor Jackson of Edward Little enters the state meet ranked high in four events, while Connor Kaplinger looks to place in multiple throwing events for Lewiston.

Class A Girls

Area athletes to watch: Oxford Hills — Taylor Haggerty (100, 200, long jump), Maighread Laliberte (shot put, discus), Jadah Adams (javelin); Edward Little — Lauren Berube (pole vault, javelin); Lindy Hyndman (100, 200); Ella Boucher (100, 200, 300H, long jump), Jillian Richardson (1,600, 3,200); Lewiston — Sydney Roy (javelin, shot put, discus), Benedict Citenga (shot put).

Area outlook: Edward Little’s Jillian Richardson earned the distance double at the KVAC championships but will face tough competition from some southern schools at states. Lauren Berube will look to break the EL school record in the pole vault, while Jadah Adams of Oxford Hills enters the state meet in first in the javelin. Adams is the defending state champion in the event.

Class B Boys

Area athletes to watch: Mt. Blue — Jesse Dalton (1,600, 3,200), Enrico Echevarria (1,600 racewalk); Leavitt — Bryce Pelletier (110H, 300H), Stephen Gray (long jump, triple jump, high jump), Ryan Pratt (1,600 racewalk); Gray-New Gloucester — Andrew Peterson (100, 200), Jake Maccallum (discus, javelin), Seth Levier (long jump, triple jump); Poland — Sam Benedict (shot put), Matt Thebarge (pole vault), Lucas Yorkey (1,600, 3,200); Spruce Mountain — Zak Toothaker (100, 200, long jump), Logan Howes (javelin).

Area outlook: Jesse Dalton looks to place in both the 1,600 and the 3,200 meter runs for Mt. Blue. Leavitt’s Stephen Gray will face a challenge in each of the three jumping events while teammate Bryce Pelletier will be looking to place in both hurdle events. Zak Toothaker of Spruce Mountain will be a tough out in the sprints and the long jump.

Class B Girls

Area athletes to watch: Mt. Blue — Kahryn Cullenberg (1,600, 800), Julia Hatch (1,600 racewalk); Leavitt — Nicole Daigle (100, 200, 400, 4×100 relay), Kristen Roux (100H, 300H); Gray-New Gloucester — Madison Post (100, 200, discus), Jasmine French (long jump, triple jump), Zoe Barnes (shot put, discus, javelin); Poland — Olivia Ouellette (1,600, 3,200), Faith Davis (shot put, discus), Desiree Wante (triple jump); Spruce Mountain — Hannah St. Pierre (long jump, triple jump), Emily White (1,600 racewalk), Ashlyn Williams (110H, 300H).

Area outlook: Nicole Daigle of Leavitt will look to win another state title in the 100-meter and place high in the relay. Gray-New Gloucester’s Madison Post is defending her 200-meter state title from 2017 while also attempting to knock off Daigle in the 100. Spruce Mountain’s Hannah St. Pierre is going to challenge in the long and triple jumps.

Class C Boys

Area athletes to watch: St. Dom’s — Mark D’Alessandro (1,600, 3,200), Liam Levasseur (1,600, 3,200), Nick Welsh (110H, 300H); Lisbon — David Schlotterbeck (1,600, 3200, 800), Alan Lavoie (racewalk, shot put), Seth Leeman (110H, 300H); Mt. Abram — Jon Jordan (100, 200), Nick Poulin (long jump, high jump), Jackson Masterson (long jump, triple jump); Winthrop — Shane Tweedie (shot put); Monmouth — Zach Wallace (discus, shot put), Ethan Thombs (discus, javelin), Dylan Goff (400); Dirigo — Cam Kidder (300H, long jump, triple jump); Mountain Valley — Chris Glover (javelin, 200, triple jump, long jump), Cameron Payne (110H, 300H).

Area outlook: Coming off of MVC wins in the 1,600 and 3,200, David Schlotterbeck of Lisbon will try to keep his momentum going into the state meet. Chris Glover is the returning favorite in the javelin and is also in the lead for the triple jump. Ethan Thombs and Zach Wallace of Monmouth will challenge in the throws. St. Dom’s Mark D’Alessandro and Liam Levasseur will try and give Schlotterbeck a run for his money in the distance events.

Class C Girls

Area athletes to watch: St. Dom’s — Bugsy Hammerton (100, 200); Lisbon — Sydney Douglass (1,600 racewalk, 800, pole vault), Destiney Deschaines (long jump, triple jump); Mt. Abram — Ali Cockerham (100, 200), Hailey Fenwick (shot put, discus, javelin); Winthrop — Jillian Schmelzer (100, 200), Aaliyah WilsonFalcone (long jump, triple jump); Monmouth — Kaitlin Hunt (1,600, 3,200, 800), Abbie Hunt (1600, 3200, 800), Libby Clement (110H, 300H, high jump), Destiny Clough (shot put, javelin, discus); Mountain Valley — Lauren Sterling (100, 100H, high jump), Abbie Blauvelt (long jump, triple jump).

Area outlook: Bugsy Hammerton of St. Dom’s will be a top competitor in the sprints. Sisters Kaitlin and Abbie Hunt will work off each other to challenge in the distance events as part of a strong Monmouth girls’ team. Lauren Sterling will be defending the 100 hurdle state title that she has won the last two years after breaking the MVC record last Thursday.
