A New York architect has been selected to design the proposed Lewiston Mall shopping center, it was announced today by the developer, Robert Rosenthal. Herbert Tannenbaum of New York City will draw up the plans for the shopping center which is to be located off Lisbon Street at the head of East Avenue. The Lewiston Mall is to include several stores including a W. T. Grant establishment, a Shaw’s Supermarket, Cinema One and Two, and several smaller retail stores, according to Rosenthal.

With a toss of the tassel and the ringing of the Hathorn Hall bells, 404 Bates College students completed their undergraduate careers with hopes their next steps will be as successful as the one marked by Monday’s commencement. Graduates, friends, siblings and proud parents packed the college’s quadrangle for the 127th commencement ceremony to be held at the college since its inception in 1855. Commencement speaker Lester C. Thurow, a noted economist, told members of the graduating class they are entering a much different world than when their parents headed out into the work force.
